Discover our Story
‘Boerbeskuit’ that will keep the memories of your grandma alive! Heather van Zyl, who lives on a farm close to Lady Grey in the Eastern Cape sells up to 60 tons of rusks annually. Her first rusks were baked in her kitchen, but despite humble beginnings, her business has grown significantly. Here is what she has to say…
“I never really thought of myself as a baker, but after baking rusks for my neighbour a few years ago, more and more people reached out to me. They all wanted traditional ‘boerbeskuit’ or farmer’s rusks if translated from Afrikaans. They all claimed that it brought back precious memories. It took them back to a time when they were little served with deliciously baked rusks, freshly served from the coal stove.”
